Statistics

In maths we have been learning about statistics. This week we built ramps to have a marble roll contest. We then measured how long our marble would roll and we will put the results on a graph to analyse.

Reading Board Games

In reading, we have a fun reading independent activity where we make reading board games. We need to create a reading board game based on a story we have read.

The students have been very creative. They have put so much effort into their work, we hope you like them.

Caritas

Today we had a Caritas lady called Gemma come into our class and teach us about what Caritas people do to help other people in need.

Then we learnt about a man called Nick and what he did for his job working for Caritas. He had asked people in the Pacific Ocean about what is needed and what has happened, then they got a group of people to help.

After that Gemma showed us some pictures of a teenager called Maria. Maria was very lucky because lots of people can’t afford to go to high school, but Maria could afford to go. She lives with her mum, dad, brothers and grandma. Maria has chores to do which are; wash the clothes and wash her brothers.

The village that Maria lives in only has three taps for water but Caritas is helping them by getting them more taps so that they don’t have to keep on lining up in long lines every day wasting their time.

We really enjoyed learning about what Caritas is and we hope we learn more.

Family Fridays Week 8 Term 1

Last Friday we had our very first "Family Fridays," where a parent comes in on a Friday and shares something special with us. Room 9 would love to thank Susan for coming in and reading a fantastic book to us called Oh, the Places You'll Go! By Doctor Seuss and preparing an awesome PowerPoint quiz for us to answer. Thanks for all of your hard work and effort.  It was so much fun!

R.E Jesus Strand

Room 9 has done some fantastic work in R.E. We researched what food and travel was like in the time of Jesus and some students made some fantastic posters for our prayer/R.E area. Well done everyone! Great effort!

Oral Language Week

We just had a fantastic oral language week in writing where Room 9 started a new writing topic called persuasive writing. Mrs Suggate taught us lots of drama activities where we practiced our persuasive language skills. We also learnt how to memorize a persuasive piece of writing using a text map. A text map is a map of pictures that helps you remember words. By learning an excellent piece of persuasive writing, it will help us write brilliant advertisements.

Room 9's Secret Agent Goals

At the beginning of the year Room 9 dressed up as secret agents and made a secret agent profile name with details about themselves. This secret agent profile also included a goal they wanted to work on for the year. There were heaps of creative names and the students all chose goals that had something to do with a curriculum area they wanted to improve on. Keep working hard on your goals room 9! From Mrs Suggate.
